#115 Interruptions

“Oh no! I’m going to have to wash my trousers again!”

There was a second of silence before the giggling started. Joe blushed a shade of pink as the class turned to look at him. He hadn’t meant to speak out.

Sister Ann put down the book she had been reading from and glared at him..

“Joe, why are you disturbing the class?” she asked seething with anger.

“I’m sorry Sister, It’s only that I can see the clothes line from here and the wind just blew my trousers off…” He said pointing outside the window towards the hostel block.

#103 Just a small slice please…

The flames were growing bigger. She liked the way they danced in the breeze.

One whiff and it would all be gone.

Macy had been her best friend since third grade. 6 years had passed but April still needed her support on everything she did. She picked up the knife and looked at Macy. The voices in the background rose higher.

Macy met her gaze and silently nodded her head.

The sharp knife faced almost no resistance as she cut through the layers.

April smiled and turned to Macy with a slice of cake as the room erupted in applause.

“How much do you love me?”

The 8 year old girl smiled at her mother and spread her arms wide open saying “Thhhiisssss much.”

At 18, the sheets lay crumpled as she told her boyfriend she loved him enough to let him be her first.

She was 28 when she signed the register in a declaration of love as her fiancé became her husband.

One day at 38 her little boy had come home crying from the playground.

“Nobody likes me!”
“I love you baby” she said wiping his tears.
With outstretched arms she said “I love you thhhiisssss much!”
