The monkey’s eyes seemed to be following her. She put him into a carton along with the rest of the stuffed toys and sealed it. The posters had been rolled up and the walls looked bare.
A fresh coat of paint and it would look quite nice. The suitcases were sitting by the door. She hadn’t imagined the change to feel so strange.
Her mother stood in the doorway. “I thought you wanted things left the way they were…”
How could she tell them the girl who had come home wasn’t the same girl who had left 6 years ago.
